The history of the martin acoustic electric dates back 175 years ago and even at this stage, it still remains family business. They create superior quality acoustic guitars and acoustic electric basses and guitars. Basically, C.F. Martin was a German, but when he faced the violin maker’s guild, they started interfering in his activities as he was considered as a threat to the other guitar makers. And that’s why, he left for United States and became very successful and built his own guitar company.
In 1800 the martin guitars did a lot of innovations which included X bracing system which was designed for guitar top. This unique system provided the classic tone which is still heard in some Marin’s guitars today. In 1867 C.F. Martin passed away and left everything for his son. Even he died unexpectedly leaving the company to son frank. Frank expanded the martin guitar company and made mandolins and with the help of Harry hunt made a design called as the Dreadnought Guitar which became very popular.
In 1931, the company incorporated the dreadnought design for creating the most famous and revolutionary Dreadnought guitar. It is also said that martin company designed the dreadnought acoustic guitar and later other manufacturers made these on the base of original dreadnaught series. With popularity reaching new heights, the martin company prospered and built up a factory in Nazareth which is still functioning properly. Even now, the top notch woods are used and expertly inspected and therefore Martin is the best among all.
Martin has his own custom shop and also has his regular line of acoustic electric and other line of guitars. The Dreadnought series is the most popular and it is considered as his best piece of art. The other acoustic guitars are Limited edition series, backpacker, X series, road series, Golden Era Marquis, Vintage series, etc. You will find lot of guitarists swearing by the Martin guitars. Be it Eric Clapton, Nancy Wilson, Bob Shane, Johnny cash, Sting, Buddy Guy, Paul Simon, etc and they are all big fans of martin guitars. Even now, the top notch woods are used and expertly inspected and therefore Martin is the best among all.
The famous Martin acoustic electric include Martin D-18 which is still available today. Another piece is Martin HD28 Acoustic which is amazing and well balanced guitar with all the bass, treble and mids coming out clearly and they just don’t step on one another in any way.
