Songs For Acoustic Guitar Performers

songs for acoustic guitar performers
Any ideas how to start out as a solo performer?

I have produced several recording of original music in which I layed down the track for every instrument and now I am looking to play some live shows. I have several songs which could be performed with simply vocals and an acoustic guitar and because I move around a lot with my job forming a band isn’t the most feasible thing. I was wondering if anyone knew were a solo act should look too start performing because many of the bars and clubs I have been to cater to full sized bands.

Depending on how complex your original studio recordings are, the “stripped down” solo voice and guitar format might not be your best option — particularly since such “acts” are a dime a dozen and it sounds like you offer a lot more.

Instead, you should investigate ways to use a laptop computer and similar devices to bring portions of your studio material to performance spaces and play along with yourself. In the guitar realm, Pat Metheney has been especially successful with this, as has a sax player named John Furman (check out his live duo album with drummer Jack DeJohnette).

When you have this kind of “total package” to offer, club owners are more likely to consider you as a “best of both worlds” alternative to improve business on some of their “off” nights. Ditto for smaller clubs where they physically don’t have room for bands but want a fuller sound.

Of course, club owners of all shapes and sizes tend to book well in advance, so unless your current traveling schedule is predictable, you may be SOL.

Good luck and best wishes.

Another superb live performance in a career filled with them, MTV Unplugged: Bruce Springsteen in Concert (Plugged) finds the Boss at an interesting point in his life, musically and otherwise. Working without the E Street Band (except keyboardist Roy Bittan) for the time being, having divorced one wife and married another (singer and bandmate Patty Scialfa), Springsteen had released Human Touch an…
