Fender Acoustic Guitar Cables
distortion pedals&&GUITARSS!?
okaay…so ive been playing acoustic and electric guitar for around a year but i really wanna kinda step it up a lil! i was thinking how cool distortion pedals make ur electric sound …but do u haveany reccomendations of what kinds of pedals for begginers? also…what cables do u need?? like say i were to ask an employee at a guitar store what kind of cables i needed to hook up my pedal to the guitar…would they just look at me stupidly?? haha…aslo…are there different “brands” of cables that u specifically need for that pedal?? sorry im so clueless! please, any help will be appreciated!!!
P.S. my electric guitar is a Fender Stratocaster *if that helps with anything*
I agree with everything that’s said except the comment about Monster cables. Monster cables are crap – it’s all advertising hype.
Get yourself cables, but anything besides monsters. I’ve been using Rapco cables for a couple of years now, and they hold up incredibly well. Every Monster cable that I’ve owned has died within two years – and that was before I started gigging! By contrast, every Rapco cable I’ve ever bought is still working – the oldest few are around three years old, and have suffered through my abuse gig after gig, show after show.
The reason I go with Rapco is that they can be repaired – Monsters can’t. It’s that damn molded end. Sure, apparently GC will replace bad cables for free – but what if I need a cable and I’m nowhere near a GC? What if they’re closed? On the other hand, all I need is a soldering iron and some solder and I can repair these Rapco’s.
Look, all I’m saying is that the hype about Monsters is just that … hype. I found an article somewhere on the net about how a guy did some tests and they are literally no better than lamp cable. I don’t care what cables you buy, don’t waste your money buying overpriced crap, that’s all.
You need 1/4″ cables, just like the ones that go from your guitar to the amp. Any music store employee will be glad to sell you some. =)
Some of the pedals I like are the Boss DS-1 for rock, punk, and grunge, the Boss MT-2 Metal Zone for metal, the Big Muff for that Bush sound (can also be used to get Nirvana and some Smashing Pumpkins, too), and any of the various tubescreamer clones for bluesy stuff.
You might also want to look at buying some new pickups, especially a humbucker for your bridge. A humbucker will give you more punch and a hotter signal than a single-coil, all for a thicker, crunchier distortion sound. Think about it. I prefer Seymour Duncans, they tend to sound a little smoother, but many like DiMarzios as well. To my ears they sound more edgy or rough, but if you like ‘em, you like ‘em.
