Acoustic Guitar Seagull Review

Which are the best acoustic guitar strings for the Seagull Entourage S6?

I have a Seagull Entourage S6 acoustic guitar on the way. After reading many reviews it seems the strings that come with the guitar are not the best. I am pretty much a beginner, but I would like to get the best sound quality. Any Suggestions?

D’Addario strings are always good for the price. As with all strings, you may find the brilliance of the tone drops off after a month or so though you might not notice this until your ears get attuned to the sound you want from your guitar. You can prolong the good tone by never playing your guitar with dirty or sticky fingers and wiping the strings after playing – Some people use things like ‘Fast Fret’ but it is expensive as a cleaner.

For a much longer life, you might eventually like to think about coated strings such as D’Addario EXP or Elixir Nanowebs (or Polywebs). Coated strings hold their tone longer though some purists believe they don’t sound quite as good at first. They cost twice as much but last 3-4 times as long.

The next factor that affects sound is the string gauge. Heavier strings have a fuller tone but are harder on your fingers, especially when you are learning. On an accoustic guitar, you will not want to go lighter than 10s (top E = 10 thousandths of an inch) as the sound will be too thin. You will not want to go much heavier than 12s. Can I suggest the set “EJ15″ by D’Addario (phosphor bronze 10 – 47). Expect to pay about £6, maybe more – it’s a while since I bought them. They sound good, last well and are easy on your fingers.
