Acoustic Guitar Fender Used
Which acoustic guitar? Seagull or Fender?
I’m a drummer, wishing to broaden my musical horizons.
Looking to get a used guitar….which is a better deal?
Seagull S6 for $200
or
Fender DG-100 for $100?
For me this one’s a real no-brainer. WIthout a doubt, go for the Seagull!!! (Yes, those exclamation points are intentional.) A couple years ago I bought a Seagull S12+ to replace a jumbo Guild JF-30 I had stolen. I would have stayed with the GUild but the $1,200 price tag was beyond my means and my imagination. I had never heard of Seagulls, or their parent company Godin Guitars, but I was impressed when I played one in the showroom. Impressed? did I say? This butt-ugly little Canadian axe absolutely blew the Guild out of the water for sound, tone, bottom, action, sustain – every category but looks. (Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice enough looking – it’s just that the Guild had been the richest sunburst color I’d ever seen.)
Anyway, I’d be sure to test drive the Seagull first and make sure there are no hidden deficiencies. $200 for a Seagull sounds like one of those deals that might be too good to be true. If the guitar stands up to the test – glom onto it. Unless you’re buying a vintage classic or kick-ass electric – leave the Fenders on the shelf. I can’t imagine how disappointing a $100 Fender would be, musically. (And I wouldn’t want to find out.)
