Acoustic Guitar Beginner Kits

Getting a guitar?
I have been playing guitar for about 4 months and I’m actually really good. I currently only own an acoustic but I am also borrowing an electric guitar from a friend. I really want to get my own guitar that is different than the one I’m using. But My parents say I can’t get my own guitar until later. Even if I say i’ll use my own money they say “It’s just not something you need. You have a perfectly fine guitar.”
They actually said that, for my birthday in June, they would get me one of those squier guitar kits for beginners. I would’ve been playing for 8 months by then. Now they’re saying they’ll buy me a guitar for next Christmas.
Does this make any sense to anybody? What should I do?
What can I do to convince my parents to get me a really nice guitar at least by my birthday?
This will be the best answer you will possibly get.
If your parents won’t let you get one, don’t get discouraged. Keep practicing, get better. I didn’t switch to electric for almost 5 years. I learned a lot that most people don’t though. If you are going to get an electric guitar, DO NOT get a squier. This is not just my opinion, because personally I hate Strats, but Squiers are cheap. They WILL break, and you WILL pay more for a good guitar. There are much better brands to help you out.
Epiphone Les Paul playing packs are good, and their guitars are much more reliable than a cruddy Strat. Also if you want, you can get an Epiphone and buy the Amp Pack. The LP100s are great for their price, and could last you a long time.
Also, if your more on the metal side, ESP, and Ibanez have some very affordable guitars. ESP has the Vipers (50 FM and 100 FM) and the F 50s.
Ibanez produces the GAX and the Superstrat packs. They also have RGs, and other higher end guitars.
Also, I would suggest for right now just stick with electric. Seriously, I know this isn’t what any aspiring rock guitarist wants to hear, but for fear of you ending up sounding like Fall Out Boy, you need to work on the basics. Fingerstyle, chords, powerchords, sweeping, alternate bass, etc.
Buy some lesson books at your local dealer and practice practice practice.
When you do get an electric, make sure to do the following:
1. Keep playing with the correct posture. If you play incorrectly you will develop bad habits and screw up your efficiency.
2. Clean it thouroughly. Change strings when needed, wipe down the fretboard, polish it, etc.
3. Perform the neccesary upgrades. If you do indeed get the Squier Strat, you will need almost 300 dollars in upgrades for it to work for a long period of time. New strings, trem lock, trem arm, humbuckers, coils, electronics, tuners, and other accessories will be needed. Standard strats have terrible stock strings and pickups.
I personally suggest:
For a humbucker:
EMG 81
Coils:
Fender Texas Coil or Seymour Duncan P-90
Strings: Elixir with Polyweb, or Zakk Wylde Custom, Ernie Ball Super Slinkies
Get a trem lock, and Fender trem setter (if it doesn’t have one)
Definetely consider the Les Paul by Epiphone. The only updates you’ll need are the pickups. Get some EMGs or Seymour Duncans. The strings should be alright.
If you have more than 300-400 dollars to spend, I definetely suggest buying a Schecter C1, or Damien. Those are great versatile guitars, and you can change the pickups for even more versatility.
Hope This Helps!!!
